The PM – who was introduced by wife Akshata at Tory conference - confirmed the HS2 move saying the scheme was the symbol of the 'old consensus', as he vowed to 'fundamentally change our country' and fix 'broken' politics like Margaret Thatcher did. In another bold step, Mr Sunak said he wants to introduce a rising age limit on buying cigarettes - so 14-year-olds now will never be able to purchase them legally. He insisted the idea - which will be put to a free vote in Parliament - would cut cancer deaths by a quarter and protect children. Palestinian and Israeli supporters have clashed at a London Underground station as police desperately try and keep the peace on a night where hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters have descended on the Israeli embassy. Video showed dozens of police officers attempting to divide demonstrators at High Street Kensington Tube station while a pro-Palestine rally took place outside. Fireworks were seen being launched by pro-Palestine protesters on High Street Kensington - some towards the boarded up Israeli embassy - while many were unable to push through heaving crowds. It coincided with Israelis gathering outside Downing Street to hold a vigil for the victims and hostages taken by Hamas after the terror group launched its violent assault over the Gaza border on Saturday. In Kensington, pro-Palestine protesters chanted 'Israel is a terrorist state' and 'Allahu akhbar', with stalls set up touting 'Free Palestine' merchandise in the upmarket shopping district.

Video shows residents walking past discarded mattresses in one of the streets in Marseille, with some lying in the road and others propped up against buildings. Images also show home furnishings abandoned in the streets because of the issue, with a placard reading 'bedbugs' pinned to the headboard of a bed left out on the road.

The eco-conscious couple's convoy of seven gas-guzzling, blacked-out SUVs were flanked by NYPD escorts on the streets of Manhattan.

Well, what is it about Lampedusa? Do the migrants navigate their boats there, or are they steered there by the authorities? It seems in that picture that the migrant RIB is escorted by another boat, presumably of the Italian state. It seems that the Italian government uses Lampedusa as a landing point for illegal immigrants to keep them off the mainland, at least initially.

British tourist among three people 'gunned down by an ISIS-linked terror group' while on safari in Uganda
A British tourist has been shot dead in Uganda on a safari park holiday by gunmen thought to be Islamic terrorists.The unnamed Briton was one of three people targeted by militants as they travelled through Queen Elizabeth National Park in the East African nation.
Two other people - a South African holidaymaker and a Ugandan driver - were also killed in the attack, which police believe was committed by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a terror group linked to ISIS.
The group has previously been blamed for numerous massacres, including attacks that have killed dozens of schoolchildren and kidnapping foreign tourists.
Disturbing photos from the scene show the group's safari vehicle set on fire while the bodies of the victims lie on the floor on the dirt road.

Taser-Wielding Clown Roaming City Streets Prompts Warning from Dutch Police
Police in the Netherlands issued a worrisome warning to residents about a taser-wielding clown spotted roaming the streets of a city. According to a local media report, the unsettling case began last week with a series of TikTok videos wherein the haunting harlequin can be seen frightening people in the community of Amersfoort. As one might imagine, the presence of the mysterious miscreant in the city caused quite a stir on social media, which prompted Dutch authorities to assure residents they were aware of the commotion as "we have seen the TikTok videos and received reports" about the creepy clown in their midst.While police conceded that they cannot be certain if the scenes in the videos were staged, they stressed that they are taking the situation seriously and have instructed officers to "keep an eye on the situation." As if a clown prowling around the community were not unnerving enough, authorities also observed that "the sound of an object similar to an electroshock weapon" can be heard in the footage, which makes them suspect that the harlequin could be armed with some kind of taser. With that in mind, they urged residents to be alert when walking around the city and to call the police if they see something amiss.
Suggesting that the case is not a hoax orchestrated by a mischievous prankster, a concerned mother told a Dutch newspaper that her daughter actually encountered the ne'er-do-well and the youngster was most certainly not in on the joke. "Suddenly, out of nowhere came that clown with a taser," the unnamed woman recalled, "on the video, you can hear my daughter screaming with her friend. They called the police and they came right away. Those girls are really scared to death." Between the situation in Amersfoort and a somewhat similar case in Scotland, where a mischievous individual dressed as Pennywise has been 'haunting' a village, one can only hope that we are not on the cusp of another creepy clown outbreak this spooky season.

It’s happened faster than many of us perhaps thought. At the start of the year, Harry and Meghan were on everyone’s lips.Thanks to the double-barrel onslaught of their Netflix documentary whine-a-thon and Harry’s misery memoir Spare, people simply couldn’t get enough.
Love them or loathe them, they were the conversation.
Yet in less than ten months, it seems their inevitable implosion in relevance, their downward spiral towards the cultural trash can, is all but complete.
And how sad.
A pair whose refreshing presence once said so much, who – as the 21st Century royal couple – offered a bright, modern future of influence (in the truest sense), reduced to the butt of a throwaway gag on a comedy cartoon series way past its prime.
Gone are the days of full-episode South Park takedowns. On Sunday, Family Guy – limping on in its 22nd series – featured a twenty-second satire of the pair.
We see a cartoonified Duke and Duchess sipping iced tea poolside at their Montecito mansion. A butler comes over with a stack of envelopes and says to Harry: ‘Sir, your millions from Netflix for… no one knows what.’
‘Put it with the rest of them,’ Harry says, waving the butler away.
Meghan, lounging in her bikini, gets an alert on her iPhone: ‘Baaabe, time to do our daily $250,000 sponsored Instagram post… for Del Taco.’
‘I shouldn’t have left the made-up nonsense,’ Harry drones.
No, he shouldn’t. Because look where it’s got him.
The worst thing about the scene is that it’s excruciatingly unfunny.
The unfairly gained Montecito millions, the moody prince, his fame-obsessed actress-wife. It’s all pretty obvious stuff – and tells you a lot about the quality of the writer’s room on a show that’s been running since 1999.
No subtlety, no comic timing, just one smack-you-in-the-face obvious ‘punchline’: America thinks you, Harry and Meghan, are grifters!

It comes as French prosecutors open an investigation into a surge of instances of Stars of David being graffitied onto buildings across the capital and its suburbs.
Some 857 markings have been recorded since Hamas launched its incursion into Israel, France's interior minister, Gérald Darmanin, said on Tuesday.
France has seen more antisemitic attacks, ranging from graffiti to physical abuse and death threats, in the last three weeks than in the past year.
In recent weeks, a number of horrifying reports have detailed the extent of antisemitism in France following Hamas' incursion into Israel from Gaza in October.
Outside a stadium in Carcassonne, in the southwest, one instance of graffiti said: 'Killing Jews is a duty'.
