This tweet disappeared? What happened to Musk's free speech utopia?
This Milei weirdo is possibly more moderate than his predecessors on the Falklands. Hopefully he just said what certain segments of the Argentine population needed to hear, in order to satiate their irrational fixation on a group of miserable, cold, weather-beaten islands that are more than three-hundred miles off the country's coast, and many more miles from the nearest significant population centre in Argentina, whose southern region is sparsely populated. He says that the Argentine position on the sovereignty of the Falkand Islands is 'non-negotiable'. He is also quoted as saying 'you have to negotiate with Britain and consider the views of the people who live on the islands.' On the face of it, his words do not make any sense because a) you cannot enter into a negotiation if your position is non-negotiable (especially not if the other side has stated the same thing, as in this case), and b) the views of the islanders are well-known, as there was a sovereignty referendum in 2013 where only three voted that they would prefer not to remain a British Overseas Territory. So it appears that Argentina's position is inflexible, the British government's position is inflexible, and the islanders' own position is inflexible. Unless, and until, Argentina develops the means to take the islands by force, or one of its allies does, or Britain's ability to defend them evaporates, then they will remain British.'The Falkland Islands are British. THAT is non-negotiable': Grant Shapps shoots down new Argentinian president's declaration that 'reclaiming' the territory was 'non-negotiable'
Defence Secretary Grant Shapps (inset) today took a swipe at the Argentina's newly elected president after the former 'tantric sex coach' vowed to 'reclaim' the Falkland Islands and said doing so was 'non-negotiable'. A furious Shapps hit back and said the Falkland Islands 'are British' and that is 'non-negotiable' after Argentinian president-elect Javier Milei (left) said the territory belongs to Argentina and vowed to 'get them back'. Milei, who uses a medium to communicate with his dead dog for advice on political matters, pulled off a massive upset by beating Argentina's Economy Minister Sergio Massa in Sunday's polarised presidential runoff. But during his presidential campaign, Milei insisted that Britain returning the Falkland Islands was 'non-negotiable', adding that the territory, known as the Malvinas in Argentina, is Argentine. In response, Shapps said today: 'The Falkland Islands are British. That is non-negotiable and undeniable.' Referring to the results of the island's 2013 referendum, Shapps continued: '99.8% of islanders voted to remain British and we will always defend their right to self-determination and the UK's sovereignty.'
Is the climate that way year round?...a group of miserable, cold, weather-beaten islands
If there was suddenly to be an invasion of the islands, would the British government be ready to defend them?...Would they need the request of the islanders for help in defending the islands?...the views of the islanders are well-known, as there was a sovereignty referendum in 2013 where only three voted that they would prefer to remain a British Overseas Territory. So it appears that Argentina's position is inflexible, the British government's position is inflexible, and the islanders' own position is inflexible. I believe the Royal Navy has capabilities it didn't last time, namely power projection in the form of HMS Queen Elizabeth and their own 4.5 acres of sovereign territory. https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/news-and-latest-activity/features/queen-elizabeth-carriersIs the climate that way year round?...

Since 1985, there is a permanently-manned military base on the Falklands:If there was suddenly to be an invasion of the islands, would the British government be ready to defend them?...Would they need the request of the islanders for help in defending the islands?
